ADVENT CALENDARS

Every year, before Christmas, people can buy Advent calendars* (*calendrier de l'Avent).

They are "surprise" calendars. It helps children wait for Christmas Eve.

Every day, they open a little door and get a surprise. It can be a chocolate, a sweet or a little present.

Nowadays, there are loads of * (* beaucoup de) different types of calendars, for children and adults as well!

Advent 4

Some people even make them and offer them to their relatives* (*membres de la famille). They are more personal and made with love! ;-)

Gingerbread men

Everybody knows this little gingerbread* (*pain d'épices) man. But do you know his story?

Here is one of the many versions of the Gingerbread man Story:

Once upon a time* (*il était une fois), an old couple there lived an old couple who didn't have any children.

One day, the old woman decided to cook a gingerbread cookie in the shape of* (*en forme de) a man.

As soon as* (*dès que) the gingerbread man was cooked, he became alive! He started to run out of the kitchen shouting: "Don't eat me!"

The old couple tried to chase* (*poursuivre) the little gingerbread man, but they were too old and he was too fast for them.

He said: "You can't catch me!"

After that, he met a pig* (*un cochon) which tried to* (*essayer) catch him too. But he was too fast!

Then a horse* (*un cheval) tried to catch him too. But he was too fast!

Finally, a clever fox* (*renard) tried to run after him, he managed to toss* (*lancer) him in the air and... he ate him...

Poor Gingerbread man!
