Voyages et sorties

When you go to NEW YORK, one of the most famous and impressive places is TIMES SQUARE.

It is called the "Crossroads of the World*" (*le carrefour du monde).

It is situated at the junction* (*intersection) of BROADWAY and SEVENTH AVENUE.

Tourists are surrounded by giant screens, billboards* (*écrans publicitaires) and advertisements.

Everything is lit* (*To light, lit, lit: éclairer) at night,

and as you maybe know, NEW YORK has 2 nicknames* (*surnoms): THE BIG APPLE and THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS.

You can easily understand why!

Some musical comedies have been playing there for decades* (*des décennies),

like "The Lion King", "Grease" or "The Phantom of the Opera".

You can also go shopping in MACY's, one of the biggest department stores* (*grand magasin) in the world.

It's like HARRODS in London or LE PRINTEMPS in Paris.

You may also come across* (*tomber sur) the middle of the shooting* (*tournage) of a film and become the next film star!

Anyway, when you go to NEW YORK you'll remember it all your life as it's an amazing experience!

As for me, I'm longing to go back to the U.S.A, and especially in N.Y.C.

Welcome to Oxford!

 

A FEW FACTS ABOUT OXFORD

There are 24,000 students in Oxford University. Oxford University is made of 30 Colleges. A college is an Academic community where the students live and study.
Alice, from Alice in Wonderland, was a real girl named Alice Liddell. She was the daughter of the Dean* (* doyen)  at Christ Church, who was a friend of Charles Dodgson (A.K.A. Lewis Carroll), who taught* (* teach, taught, taught= enseigner) at the College. Dodgson spent much time with Alice and her family, and immortalized her in his books.
The Great Hall at Christ Church was used as inspiration for the Hogwarts dining hall* (*salle à manger) in the Harry Potter films. The staircase* (* cage d'escalier) leading up to the hall was actually used in several* (*plusieurs) scenes in the films
Residents and natives of Oxford are known as Oxonians. The term also relates to Oxford or Oxford University (adjective), or a member of Oxford University (noun).

 

If you go to London, you can go to Oxford to spend the day there. It is about  1 hour by train from London Paddington Station. It is very easy!

Oxford City Center is quite small and you can walk around* (*se promener) the numerous colleges of Oxford University.

Aujourd'hui, nous sommes allés visiter une exposition éphémère à Paris qui regroupait l'essentiel des oeuvres de BANKSY.

BANKSY est un Street Artist d'origine britannique mais dont on ne connaît pas la vraie identité. 

Bien que le principe sur Street Art soit d'envahir les rues et non les galeries, c'était un plaisir de pouvoir découvrir quelques unes de ses oeuvres reconstituées, grandeur nature. 

Une exposition passionante et très dépaysante. A voir avant le 29 septembre 2019 à l'Espace Lafayette Drouot, Paris.

Cette année, toutes les classes de 4è assisteront à la pièce de théâtre en anglais « Mandela, prisoner 46664 » dans le cadre du projet Découverte de l’Afrique du Sud avec la présence de notre assistant d’anglais, Alain REDCLIFFE. La sortie aura lieu le Jeudi 17 janvier 2019, au Théâtre l’Alhambra à Paris.

Moins connue que Londres ou Edimbourg, Cardiff est la capitale du Pays de Galles. Le Pays de Galles est situé en Grande Bretagne, à l'ouest de l'Angleterre. Les gallois sont connus pour leurs exploits sportifs, notamment au rugby. 

Edimbourg (Edinburgh en anglais) est une petite merveille! C'est la capitale de l'Ecosse et s'y promener vous réserve de belles surprises. J'ai découvert cette ville il y a peu et j'ai adoré!

Voici  mes 2 coups de coeur:

 

LONDRES

Ceux qui n'y sont pas encore allés rêvent d'y aller, ceux qui y sont déjà allés rêvent d'y retourner.

Londres est une ville cosmopolite, vivante et atypique.

Que vous cherchiez à progresser en anglais, à visiter de nouveaux endroits, à vous amuser, vous trouverez

tout ce que vous voulez dans la capitale britannique!
