Doughnut Day
Do you like doughnuts (= donuts)? Well, this article is for you!
Can you imagine that every first Friday of June, Americans celebrate Doughnut Day!
A day when you can prepare and eat doughnuts with your friends and family.
You can even get some free!
But, do you know where doughnuts come from and why it is a National Day in the U.S.A?
***********
Who invented the doughnuts?
| The history of the doughnut isn’t clearly known, but what is known is that their iconic look started making an appearance in the United States in the mid-1800’s. It is said that a gentleman named Hanson Gregory invented them because he hated when the centers were undercooked and full of fat. The shape was said to be obtained by punching a hole in the center with a tin pepper box. |

When did doughnuts become famous?
| During the first World War, a doctor, called Pett Morgan, decided to buy and give doughnuts to the injured soldiers he was working on. It helped them feel better! One of his patients was Lieutenant General Samuel Geary. He decided to start a fundraiser to continue to provide doughnuts to the doctor's patients. This fundraiser started working with the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army started to serve doughnuts during WW1, in England and in France. The record was 300 doughnuts and 700 coffees in one day! |

- Drain on kitchen paper until cool. Roll in sugar or decorate with icing as desired.

LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL
Last classes for some, last revisions for others.
Anyway, this week is a strange week. Some pupils don't come to school anymore... mind you, they were not coming so much lately! :-/
But now, the seniors can pretend they're revising for their final exam.... I hope they are!
Whereas for the others, no explanation, just the fact that there are no more marks, so... no more school!
In French, we say: "les jours se suivent et ne se ressemblent pas", that was so true this year with my classes!
We had great fun with the small ones, we did our best with the middle ones and I lost most of my energy on the seniors!
I thought this video was a good summary of I feel right now, that is... longing for holidays!
I'll keep publishing articles, apps and videos from time to time this summer... between 2 trips and 3 books
but let's meet back again in September for new adventures!
I hope you enjoy this site as much as I enjoy making it.

ELTON JOHN AT THE ELYSEES PALACE
Every 21 June, we celebrate "la fête de la musique" in France. It was created by Jack Lang, Minister of culture in 1982.
This year, I was lucky to be invited at the Elysées Palace and be able to see and hear our President, Emmanuel Macron and... Sir Elton John who was there for the Solidays Festival.*
On that day, he was rewarded with the French Légion d'honneur, which is the highest reward you can get from the French President.
I had a fabulous moment listening to the concert in the Elysées yard.
And you? Do you like music? How do you celebrate "La fête de la musique"?

*This festival was created to raise money against AIDS. For 3 days, people can go to concerts and meet many associations.
It's great fun!
Its President is Antoine Decausne (on the left of this video).
