THE JUDGES' CEREMONY
In England, the legal year (* année juridique) starts in October.
So, every year there is a ceremony in London.
This tradition started in the Middle Ages (* le Moyen-Age) and consists in a procession of judges that walk from Temple Bar to Westminster Abbey for a religious service.
All the judges wear a wig* (*une perruque) and a robe* (*= robe d'avocat NOT a dress!) for this ceremony.

TO BREXIT OR NOT TO BREXIT?
After months and months of negotiations, the U.K is about to quit the European Union (E.U).
On the 31/10/2019, the U.K is supposed to become independant from Europe.
But last week, one million people demonstrated* (* manifester) in the streets of London in order to show they were against Brexit.
They walked to the Parliament and waited for the Members of Parliament's vote.
But... surprise!
They refused to vote! They asked to postpone* (* reporter) the Brexit date.
The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson was very disappointed and was forced to send a letter asking for a new date....but he didn't want to sign it!
So, he sent a second letter, telling he did not agree with a new date. He wants to leave Europe as soon as possible.
So, will the U.K leave the E.U? When?

ULURU CLOSED TO TOURISTS
Uluru, also called Ayers Rock is one of the most famous landmarks in Australia. It is a huge* (énorme), sacred rock.
It is 348m high, 2.2 miles (3.6 km) long by 1.5 miles (2.4 km) wide, with a circumference of 5.8 miles (9.4 km).
It is situated in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park in the middle of Australia.
October 25th 2019 was the last day people could climb up* (escalader, grimper) the rock.
A climbing ban* (interdiction de grimper) was voted to respect the Anangu people's wish to protect their ancestral and sacred land.
You can still walk around* (marcher autour) it but you can't climb on it anymore.

HALLOWEEN
Halloween is usually celebrated on October 31st. People get dressed up as* (*déguisés en) monsters, vampires and zombies. They want to be scary!
People wear costumes and put some make-up* (* maquillage).
Children go around the houses to get some sweets* (*bonbons).
They knock* (*frapper) on the doors and say "Trick or treat?"* (*Blague ou bonbon?)
They are often spoilt* (*gâtés)!
